At ZBiotics, we make genetically engineered probiotics that improve daily life. In 2019, ZBiotics launched Pre-Alcohol, the world’s first genetically engineered probiotic designed to break down the alcohol byproduct that leads to rough mornings after drinking. In 2024, we launched a genetically engineered probiotic drink mix, Sugar-to-Fiber, that creates fiber from the food you eat. This revolutionary product helps to improve the diversity of gut bacteria and overall gut health.

With a full line of genetically engineered probiotics in development, our team is growing. We’re looking for people as excited as we are to build this new category of consumer products. ZBiotics is headquartered in San Francisco, and backed by venture investors including Y Combinator, Khosla Ventures, and Social+Capital, among others.

About the Role

As Marketing Manager, Brand & Product Marketing, you’ll play a key role in accelerating our retail presence, driving Marketing initiatives for our second product (Sugar-to-Fiber), and helping shape the future of our third. You’ll report directly to the Director of Brand & Product Marketing and work cross-functionally to launch, test, and iterate brand and product marketing strategies that drive impact. This role is ideal for a strategic marketer who thrives in a fast-paced, experimental environment and wants to be at the forefront of building a pioneering biotech brand. 

As the Marketing Manager you’re responsibilities are:

Retail Marketing Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and execute the brand strategy for retail expansion, ensuring ZBiotics’ values and identity resonate on shelves.
  • Partner with the Retail and Growth teams to create and implement marketing campaigns that drive customer traffic to retailers and increase in-store sales.
  • Build and analyze retail marketing initiatives, testing various strategies to optimize performance.

Sugar-to-Fiber Marketing Campaigns

  • Partner closely with the Product Manager to uncover key customer insights and lead the development of marketing test-and-learn initiatives grounded in those findings.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design experiments, analyze results, and iterate marketing strategies based on data.
  • Serve as the go-to expert on Sugar-to-Fiber marketing performance, translating insights into impactful, actionable Marketing campaigns that build brand equity and drive growth.

Marketing Strategy for New Product Development  

  • Partner with the Customer Insights team to design and conduct customer testing and research for our pipeline of products, ensuring the products meet customers where they are at and fits the brand future vision.
  • Synthesize customer insights to inform messaging and positioning strategies.
  • Present findings and actionable recommendations to key stakeholders to shape the Marketing go-to-market plan for new products. 

Experience must-haves

  • Prior marketing experience, including a strong background in retail and/or CPG.
  • Proven ability to execute and scale marketing campaigns that drive customer acquisition or conversion.
  • Strong analytical skills; comfortable working with data to guide decisions.
  • Excellent project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently for retail visits, field testing, and team off-sites.

Experience nice-to-haves

  • Experience launching or marketing products in a start-up or high-growth environment.
  • Familiarity with test-and-learn frameworks and growth marketing principles.
  • Passion for science, innovation, and creating meaningful brand experiences.

The base salary for this position is $136,000/year, and will include additional equity.
