Ecommerce and Digital Experience Manager
Ecommerce and Digital Experience Manager
Remote (US-based)
Please note that we are a growing company, and this role is starting as a hands-on position. You will be managing outsourced developers, but you will not start with any direct reports and will be expected to manage code changes and build pages on the website. Our expectation is that this will change as we scale. However, we are looking for somebody who is excited by the near-term prospect of getting hands-on and wearing many hats in a fast-growing company.
The Opportunity
At ZBiotics, we make genetically engineered probiotics that improve daily life. Our mission is to create, brand, and sell GMOs that people love. As a group of motivated, yet down-to-earth people, we are fueled by two things: a love for science and a commitment to being people-first. GMO products like ours – designed to benefit individuals who use them directly – are the future. As the first to market, we believe it’s our duty to set a high bar for product quality, safety, and transparency for others to follow.
In 2019, we launched the world’s first genetically engineered probiotic: ZBiotics® Pre-Alcohol, a 14mL probiotic drink designed to break down an alcohol byproduct that leads to rough mornings after drinking. Since then, ZBiotics’ business has continued to grow rapidly year over year, and in 2024 we launched our second product: ZBiotics® Sugar-to-Fiber, a genetically engineered probiotic that creates fiber in your gut using sugar you already eat, contributing to microbiome health.
ZBiotics is headquartered in San Francisco and backed by venture investors including Y Combinator, Spring Tide Capital, and Khosla Ventures, among others.
About You
You’re a systems thinker with a product or engineering mindset, driven to solve problems through structure, data, and thoughtful experimentation. You thrive when given autonomy and clarity, and your instinct is to bring order to complexity — whether through documentation, automation, or process refinement.
You may have started in dev, analytics, or product management, and now you’re excited to apply your skills to ecommerce in a fast-moving, mission-driven company. You’re the kind of person who knows how (and when) to go deep in the data, but who also enjoys zooming out to assess end-to-end UX.
You’re not just looking for a checklist of tasks — you want to build, optimize, and scale something meaningful. You like owning outcomes. You are collaborative by nature, comfortable working across teams, and enjoy communicating the “why” behind your decisions.
You’ll complement an experienced ecommerce leader who focuses on strategy, vision, and storytelling. Your job is to help scale that vision through technical depth, operational precision, and a mindset of continuous improvement.
Your Responsibilities
You’ll report to the Senior Director of Omnichannel Strategy and own day-to-day execution across the DTC ecommerce channel (zbiotics.com). Your success will be measured by your ability to drive performance, reduce friction, and scale systems that make our ecommerce engine smarter, faster, and more resilient.
Your key areas of impact will include:
- Website Operations & QA
Maintain and improve our Shopify site, ensuring high uptime, fast load speeds, error-free functionality, and clean handoffs from design to dev.
- Technical Ownership & Documentation
Serve as the connective tissue across our ecommerce tools and vendors (e.g., Pipe17, Elevar, TrueVault). Own the backend logic for order routing, tag management, and tracking scripts. Document processes for future teammates using Notion.
- Data Fluency & Optimization
Set up and QA split tests, track results with statistical rigor, and recommend next steps. Partner with data and growth teams to evaluate CRO experiments, attribution logic, and performance KPIs.
- Zero- and First-Party Data Strategy
Drive efforts to collect, organize, and activate customer data (e.g., Kno Commerce). Build audience segments and personalization opportunities based on behavioral signals.
- Project Management & Cross-Functional Execution
Run point on projects that touch product launches, landing pages, new integrations, compliance initiatives, and more. Collaborate with marketing, design, customer experience, and dev vendors.
